No-Scalpel Vasectomy in the Philippines – Charity Mission 2016

No-scalpel vasectomy was the leading theme of the 14th International Charity Mission, which took place in the Philippines in February and March 2016. A group of specialists led by No Scalpel Vasectomy International (NSVI) carried out hundreds of free vasectomy procedures, while at the same time training local doctors in this modern technique.

Goals of the 2016 Vasectomy Mission

During the no-scalpel vasectomy mission in the Philippines three main goals were achieved:

  • Free procedures for poor families
  • Training local doctors in the no-scalpel method, with thermal coagulation and so-called fascial interposition
  • Promotion of conscious family planning

The vasectomy technique recommended by the American Urological Association on the basis of an extensive meta-analysis of scientific publications from around the world (No Scalpel, Fascial interposition, thermal cautery), the so-called open-ended method used during the mission, is characterised by 99.9% effectiveness and a minimal risk of complications. Nine doctors from 7 countries took part in the 2016 vasectomy mission, including:

70% of the participants had already taken part in the previous edition, which shows the team’s enormous commitment to developing no-scalpel vasectomy in developing countries.
