Vasectomy – World Day

This is an annual global event, started in 2013. WVD is coordinated by a non-profit organisation/association based in New York.
The funders of WVD are: Dr Douglas Stein (a urologist who has performed over 35,000 no-scalpel vasectomies) and Jonathan Stack, an Emmy-winning documentary director, twice nominated for an Oscar.

Vasectomy in the world.

The aim of World Vasectomy Day is to raise awareness and dispel myths about vasectomy. To increase access to this method of contraception, especially in neglected areas. The event is also meant to inspire men to become more engaged partners of women in contraception.

On 7 November 2014, 250 doctors from 30 countries performed over 1,500 vasectomies within 24 hours.

In the following years the main celebrations took place in:

• 2015 – Indonesia
• 2017 – Kenya
• 2017 – India – the event planned for November

While World Vasectomy Day is meant to popularise vasectomy around the world, some of the doctors associated with WVD undertake numerous missions in developing countries, performing vasectomies free of charge and teaching vasectomy to local doctors – within the sister organisation No-Scalpel Vasectomy International. Let’s Save Our Planet

How pompous that sounds! Doesn’t it ?

In Africa you can often meet families where one man has 7 wives and 5-7 children with each of them.
Every day boats set out from the crowded coastal villages for food for the hungry children. The fish being caught cannot reproduce fast enough, and more and more often the father of such a large family (a fisherman) comes home with an empty net.

A low standard of living, poverty and a lack of education contribute to the population explosion in many developing countries.

One of the solutions may be vasectomy…

You may ask: “And how does that harm us?”

Today’s developing countries are enormous consumers of all kinds of plastics and packaging – which, in masses of millions of tonnes, flow as small pieces of litter down the rivers into the seas and oceans, destroying the environment and killing various creatures. Which of us has not seen films of dead young cormorants or seal pups that could not pass a swallowed plastic bottle cap or a Lego brick.

That is why – let’s save our planet!

*The money paid in will be used entirely to cover the costs of the awareness campaign and will under no circumstances be used to cover the costs of the mission participants. Each mission participant covers the full cost of their own flight, accommodation and meals. Each participant also pays an additional 2,000 dollars towards the mission’s goals.
